Bronx Dentist Discusses New Tooth Decay Study

92% of adults age 20-64 have tooth decay in their permanent teeth according to the latest statistics from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR). As a dentist in Bronx, NY, Dr. Victor Oelbaum has been practicing for more than 26 years, and says he remains dedicated to maintaining healthy oral habits to not only reduce tooth decay, but also prevent more serious deterioration requiring advanced dental procedures such as dental implants or periodontics.

More than 9 of 10 American adults have tooth decay according to the latest evidence from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR). While Dr. Victor Oelbaum says the most common treatment performed at his Bronx dentistry practice focuses on addressing tooth decay in the permanent teeth of his adult patients, he says encouraging routine exams and helping patients develop healthy oral habits will prevent minor decay from requiring more serious dental treatments and affecting their overall health.

For more than 26 years, Dr. Oelbaum has been practicing dentistry and developing healthy oral habits in patients of all ages. While he admits the statistics from the NIDCR are alarming, he says routine dental exams present an easy and comprehensive solution for controlling the impact tooth decay has on his patients’ quality of life. However, he adds that regardless of whether his patients need dental hygiene tips, advanced dental treatments, or Invisalign in Bronx, NY, he and his staff have always concentrated on providing comprehensive dental care.

While Dr. Oelbaum admits that diagnosing and treating tooth decay is his team’s highest priority as they confront these staggering statistics, he says addressing a patient’s level of anxiety is extremely important as well. “From the time a patient steps through the door they are comforted by the friendliness of our staff. By the time the patient is seated in the dental chair, I do everything I can to put the patient at ease so they know they have chosen the right place and their mouth is in good hands.”
